PITTSBURGH聽鈥 For the second time in 12 months, Cardinals top prospect JJ Wetherholt will represent the club at an event in the All-Star city.

A year after attending the Major League Baseball Draft to be present when the Cardinals selected him No. 7 overall, Wetherholt will head back to All-Star Weekend as the Cardinals' selection for the annual Futures Game, a showcase of the top prospects in professional baseball.聽
Wetherholt, a top-20 prospect in all of the minors according to industry publications, is the only Cardinals' representative selected.
Three years ago, current starting shortstop Masyn Winn and right fielder Jordan Walker took the field together at Dodger Stadium to represent the Cardinals in the 2022 Futures Game. It was there that Winn sizzled a 100-mph throw from shortstop that caused some of the biggest buzz at the exhibition game.

Wetherholt, 22, has hit .305/.430/.453 for the Cardinals' Class AA affiliate in Springfield, Missouri. He has five home runs, 27 RBIs, and as many runs (35) as strikeouts (35) in 57 games. A shortstop, Wetherholt has helped power the S-Cards to a playoff berth as the first-half champion in their Texas League division.聽
This month, Wetherholt has reached base as often as opponents have gotten him out.
He is batting .356 with a .500 on-base percentage and a .521 slugging percentage for a 1.021 OPS in 21 games.
Fresh out of West Virginia and into professional baseball a year ago, Wetherholt helped lift the Class A Palm Beach Cardinals to the Florida State League championship. In less than 12 months of professional baseball the left-handed-hitting infield has been a driving force behind two playoff clubs.
The Futures Game is set for July 12 at Truist Park as one of the opening events at Atlanta's All-Star week.
