The ×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ area is set to see scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening, along with the potential for strong, damaging gusts of wind, forecasters warned, before the return of extreme heat later this week.
The local forecast office for the National Weather Service said that Monday's showers and thunderstorms would develop ahead of an afternoon cold front and become "more numerous along the front" in the evening.
The main threat posed by a few of the strongest thunderstorms is the chance for isolated gusts of wind reaching up to 60 mph, between 3 and 9 p.m., the NWS said.
Still, the agency gave Monday's severe weather a "marginal risk" rating, with a threat level of 1 — the lowest level possible on a 5-point scale.
The week starts off with relatively cool temperatures in the region after last week's prolonged stretch of intense heat, although hot conditions will return by the holiday weekend. From Friday through Sunday, the airmass over the region "will be capable of heat index values reaching and exceeding 100 degrees," the NWS said.
