A measure to include north 最新杏吧原创 County and St. Charles County as areas eligible for radiation-exposure compensation has cleared a major hurdle in the U.S. Senate.
U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, a major mover behind the measure, said an expansion of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act has survived intact within the larger budget bill that will soon head to the U.S. House.

Hawley had to leave the RECA expansion measure in place when they looked for items to strip from the budget bill 鈥 known as 鈥淏yrd Rules鈥澛爋r 鈥淏yrd Bath,鈥澛燼fter former U.S, Sen. Robert Byrd 鈥 during the ongoing reconciliation process.聽

The RECA expansion would include Missouri and other states eligible for federal compensation due to exposure to radioactive materials produced by the government during and after World War II as the defense industry worked to developed atomic weapons.
This would include local areas such as Coldwater Creek and the West Lake Landfill in North County and sites in Weldon Springs in St. Charles County.
Hawley has had senatorial support in pushing for the RECA expansion. Along with GOP state mate Eric Schmitt, Democratic U.S. Sens.聽Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Lujan of New Mexico and聽Mark Kelly of Arizona also聽have pushed for the expansion.
