Worthy: Blues extending Cam Fowler shows they think they're on the doorstep of contention
The Blues have officially waved goodbye to their rebuilding. Sure, president of hockey operations/general manager Doug Armstrong remains a bit cagey when he acknowledges the rebuild has mostly concluded, but that鈥檚 because he knows his team doesn鈥檛 exist in a vacuum. Other teams haven鈥檛 stood still while the Blues reloaded.
However, the fact that the Blues extended veteran defenseman Cam Fowler speaks volumes. The three-year extension with an average annual value of $6.1 million makes a clear statement that the Blues think they鈥檙e close to becoming a contending team again.

The Blues are finally close to arriving at some answers.
Saturday was their final preseason game of the fall, as they visited Chicago to take on the Blackhawks before rosters are due on Monday, and the regular season opens Thursday against the Wild. With five exhibitions and two weeks of training camp in the rear-view mirror, here鈥檚 a projection of what the Blues roster could look like in just a few days.

In the penultimate preseason game, the Blues will use a lineup that will closely resemble the one they use in a week for opening night.
Of the expected regulars, only Jake Neighbours and Alexey Toropchenko will not play on Thursday against the Senators. That includes all three defensive pairings and Jordan Binnington playing a full 60 mintues in goal.
In one year, Holloway has transformed himself from the new kid on the block after arriving from Edmonton into a part of the core for the Blues moving forward.
Among the cuts on Sunday were first-round picks Justin Carbonneau and Adam Jiricek, who were each sent back to their respective junior hockey teams.
