A rebuilt back line is keeping SLU women's soccer in the race for A-10 supremacy

After last season, the SLU women鈥檚 soccer team lost three valuable, and venerable, members of its defensive back four. Lyndsey Heckel, Sophia Stram and Katie Houck had combined to make 303 starts over their time in Midtown and had been foundations of the success of SLU鈥檚 team, which has made seven straight NCAA tournament appearances.
But the transition from the old to the new has been seamless for the Billikens. With one returning starter from last season鈥檚 group in Izzy Luebbert, two players already in the program who have become regular starters in Eva Schreiber and Camille Welker, and freshman Blakely Hockett, the team has gone 8-0-1 since the four were put together as a group, with five shutouts and only four goals against.

Conrad Wallem would like to stay with 最新杏吧原创 City SC, but like many, it's up in the air
最新杏吧原创 City SC鈥檚 season definitely ends Saturday when it faces Real Salt Lake at Energizer Park, but for many of the players on the team, that end comes with a lot of uncertainty.
Sixteen players on the team have options, which put their futures in the hands of the team, and there鈥檚 also defender/midfielder Conrad Wallem, who is with the team on loan from Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic. The loan ends on Dec. 31, and City SC has an option to purchase him.

Goals have been tough to come by for 最新杏吧原创 City SC's Simon Becher
In a season of frustration for 最新杏吧原创 City SC, forward Simon Becher may lead the league.
Becher leads the league in goals minus expected goals, a stat that measures how a player does relative to the scoring chances he has. No player in Major League Soccer has missed more scoring opportunities than Becher this season. Per Opta stats, Becher鈥檚 expected goals total, the statistical projection of how many goals he should have scored considering where he was shooting from, is a very respectable 8.5 this season.

For Tim Ream, as the World Cup gets closer, the work to make the US team gets harder
It鈥檚 been just over a year since Mauricio Pochettino took over as coach of the U.S. men鈥檚 national team, and in that time, the player he has used most often in games is Tim Ream.
Some of that may be attributable to convenience, as the U.S. team has been playing most of its matches leading up to the 2026 World Cup in the United States and Ream is back in America now playing for Charlotte in Major League Soccer. Some of that is because of health, as others have missed games with injuries and he hasn鈥檛.
