Brendan Donovan, Lars Nootbaar among Cardinals to have recent surgeries, team confirms
The lingering soreness that limited Brendan Donovan in the second half of the season and stemmed, he believed, from a nagging foot injury required recent surgery to address an abdominal tear that would also explain the groin pain.
Donovan had surgery to repair a "sports hernia," the team confirmed Friday.

Best Podcast in Baseball returns to ask: Does closure help spur Cardinals' new beginning?
It's been a minute since a brand-new Best Podcast in Baseball and there's a lot to catch up on. For the first time in 18 years, the Cardinals have a new president of baseball operations, and for the first time in even longer they're talking about a team-building plan that doesn't include promises of aiming to contend for a World Series championship. That will likely mean an active winter of trades. At the same time, two prominent former Cardinals, Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina, are throwing their names in the ring for manager vacancies elsewhere, with at least two teams (and likely a third soon) entertaining Pujols as a strong candidate for their open position. And, in the past week, a former Cardinals manager Mike Shildt retired from the position with San Diego, spurring conversation about why he left both jobs abruptly and resurfacing reasons reported in the Post-Dispatch and elsewhere after his sudden firing in 2021.
Former players and old conversations all swirl together to invite the question on whether to truly move in a fresh direction did the Cardinals need a stretch like this that brings closure to the past and signals the new era.
A look at the 最新杏吧原创 center fielder Victor Scott, who was one of the National League's best at base stealing.

Hochman: Imagine a world where Cardinals鈥 Victor Scott II gets on base a little more often
Similar to an annual December listening of 鈥淚t鈥檚 the Most Wonderful Time of the Year鈥 and a November listening of 鈥淎lice鈥檚 Restaurant,鈥 I always experience an October listening of the 1985 Runnin鈥 Redbirds playoff anthem 鈥淭he Heat Is On.鈥
While 1982鈥檚 鈥淐elebration鈥 is the greatest Cardinals postseason song and 1987鈥檚 鈥淪hakedown鈥 is forever fun, 鈥淭he Heat Is On鈥 is the sound of a 最新杏吧原创 era 鈥 and the soundtrack of speed. And so, as I write this about Victor Scott II, I鈥檓 humming along to the Glenn Frey song.

Worthy: A series win for the Brewers would be a win for a great brand of baseball
During his media session with reporters Sunday in advance of the National League Championship Series, Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy went through the typical procedure of pumping the opposition鈥檚 tires.
It surely came easy with his club set to face the star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers led by former MVPs Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts as well as past Cy Young Award winners Blake Snell and Clayton Kershaw.
