There is a serious financial and political conundrum occurring in our country. The federal government is running up huge annual budget deficits, the need for social assistance is substantial and growing, and our politicians understand that the fastest way to get voted out of office is to either raise taxes or cut federally funded social programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
So, we all watch this proverbial train wreck occurring and we don't have a clear understanding of how much debt can accumulate before serious untenable consequences occur.
It's easy to justify obviously beneficial programs such as SNAP. After all, who would want their fellow countrymen to go hungry? But while the Trump administration can look for all the waste and fraud they hope to find, you can be assured that any amount found isn't going to result into a net positive cash flow.

The bottom line is, if we want these kinds of federally funded charitable programs to continue providing relief to the poor, it's going to take additional taxes to pay for them.
