ST. LOUIS 鈥 Missouri鈥檚 attorney general previewed several upcoming legal battles over issues related to transgender students and health care on Thursday during a visit to 最新杏吧原创.
Andrew Bailey, a Republican, also smiled and shook hands with former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines, who has campaigned nationwide against allowing transgender athletes to participate in women鈥檚 sports as he signed a pledge promising to 鈥渦phold laws that preserve female opportunities and private spaces.鈥
Bailey鈥檚 battles against transgender rights and gender-affirming care have been a key part of his pitch as he runs for his first full term in office after being appointed by Gov. Mike Parson in 2022. He is set to face fellow Republican Will Scharf in the August GOP primary.
Bailey on Thursday outlined his office鈥檚 work fighting to get patient records from the Washington University Transgender Clinic, suing the Wentzville School District over its decision to discuss bathroom and locker room access for transgender students in a closed meeting and defending a state law that banned minors from receiving gender-affirming health care.

Bailey launched an investigation last year into WashU鈥檚 transgender center, which is part of its children鈥檚 hospital, following a complaint from a former case manager who said families were rushed into treatment, mental health issues were ignored and side effects of hormone therapy glossed over.
Families of transgender youths spoke out against those claims, however, telling the Post-Dispatch that they were 鈥渂affled鈥 by the allegations.
Washington University then sued, arguing Bailey does not have the legal authority to demand access to patient records as part of his investigation. That case is set for a hearing later this month.
Attorneys for Bailey鈥檚 office are also set to appear Monday in St. Charles County in the lawsuit against Wentzville School District.
