The largest butcher shop in the 最新杏吧原创 metro area is gearing up to celebrate its 80th anniversary in a big way, and everyone鈥檚 invited to the party.
Herb Kenrick initially launched his mobile meat market back in 1945, quickly building a reputation for his dedication to delivering high-quality products to the south 最新杏吧原创 region. Joe Weinmann (aka Joe the Butcher) purchased the business three decades later, keeping Kenrick鈥檚 name, then growing the operation and ultimately expanding into the Weber Road location that the shop has called home since 2004.
鈥淣o other meat market in the area is quite like us,鈥 said Steve Weinmann, 聽general manager. 鈥淲e have the main retail store, a catering department and the K-Caf茅 for lunch service.聽Our USDA-grade wholesale department supplies fresh cuts of meat to many local restaurants. Many 最新杏吧原创ans have probably eaten our products without even realizing it.鈥
Now moving into its third-generation of family ownership, Kenrick鈥檚 offers a nearly overwhelming inventory of beef, pork, poultry, seafood, lamb, deli meats, specialty goods, sausages (some still made using Herb鈥檚 original recipes), bacon, pizzas and freshly prepared foods. Exemplary customer service remains a mainstay, and their knowledgeable team of butchers are always ready to help with recommendations, offer cooking tips and cut any item to order.
鈥淲e try to source mostly from the Midwest, usually within 200 miles of our location,鈥 said operations manager Mike Byassee. 鈥淲e get a majority of our fresh pork from Illinois, and all of our beef is wet-aged for at least 21 days before cutting it and serving it to our customers at the meat counter.鈥
Customers love the made-in-store pizzas and prepared foods.聽Pork and chicken on-a-stick (called sizzlers), stuffed pork tenderloins and the trademarked Ozark Grillers 鈥 bacon wrapped bites of top round beef stuffed with cheddar cheese perfect for summer cookouts 鈥 are just a few of the best-selling items. In fact, the selection is so extensive, some customers consider Kenrick鈥檚 a paradise for carnivores.
The K-Caf茅 is open daily for on-site dining, where customers can order from聽the menu or try a one of the daily specials that are posted on the website every month.
鈥淲e make everything, right down to our own potato chips!鈥 Byassee said. 鈥淥ur customers know they can count on us for the best specialty cuts and items. They rely on us every year for their special holiday dinners like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, and then we also have our regular customers who shop with us on a weekly basis.鈥
To demonstrate customer appreciation, Kenrick鈥檚 offers rotating weekly coupons and sends out regular email blasts detailing special offers.

To commemorate its upcoming 80th anniversary, Kenrick鈥檚 plans to host a big public celebration event at the store from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, that will feature $1 brats, raffles, swag bags for the first 100 visitors and an appearance from Alpha Brewing.
The secret to Kenrick鈥檚 longevity? Weinmann says it鈥檚 the store鈥檚 ability to preserve tradition while also embracing change and innovation.
鈥淲e really pride ourselves on our quality, our price and our service,鈥 he said. 鈥淎t the same time, we never shy away from trying new things and we always listen to what our customers want.鈥澛
鈥淲e鈥檙e not some bougie butcher shop,鈥 Byassee added. 鈥淲e鈥檙e just a comfortable, friendly store that puts out good products at reasonable prices.鈥
